G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S 2013

Last week I asked friends to dress in a kilt and do a caber toss with a 10 foot asparagus, wore underpants made of toast, suited Peter up in full Scuba gear for spin class and much more insanity.  Have I lost my mind?  Probably.  But all of this was for the 2013 G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S or “GreatestInternational Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen.”

But wait, why should thousands of people spend a week doing all of the crazy stuff some guy from the CW (Misha Collins) asks us to do?
I’ll tell you why this week is worth-while.

·      Every year we change the world for the better
  •       Thousands of pints of blood donated
  •       Families in need are helped
  •       We make new friends from all over the world
  •       We step out of our comfort zones
  •       And seriously, who doesn’t want to wear a bikini made out of tea bags?

This year my team of 15 amazing folks from all over the world did some downright CRAZY stuff but we also learned about each other while doing our part to make the world a better place.  Here are some of my highlights from the week:

Thanks to Breezeway Bubbles Scuba, Peter was able to take a spin class in full scuba gear.

A pillow fight with more than 10 people in pajamas.  Adding logs?  Awesome.

Toast for Underpants.  Bonus points for jam.  Life lesson learned: ensure toast has cooled before putting between legs.
Another life lesson: Toast underpants (when secured with duct tape) hurt like NOTHING ELSE to remove.

Donate blood with a friend wearing something festive on your head.  Done.

We made hundreds of people hug for the "Hug the World" Campaign.  GISHWHES broke the world record of the MOST photos of people hugging in one place!

I cannot tell you how much fun it was to spend a day asking people to hold signs and hug.  Hugs are amazing!

So... life is short.  Do something to get OUT of your comfort zone and make the world a better place!
