Good Times, Great Friends
I am truly blessed with wonderful friends. I just looked back on my weekend, and realized how much fun I am having right now. First, on Thursday night, Ken and I were invited to a wedding in Costa Rica with the whole vet school crew... who despite the fact I am nowhere near as bright as any of them, have adopted me as a friend. I know that week in paradise will be amazing, especially since I will be spending it with such cool people!
Friday I got to work with my new friend Kari. Yeah for new friends! She is just a sweetheart and ALWAYS makes me smile. One of the first times we spent time together, she bought me a caramel apple out of the blue because I had mentioned I love them. I know it was a small gesture, but it really made my day.
Friday night Ken had to go to bed early, so my friends Peter, Nate, and Chris took me in for the evening. Even though we did absolutely nothing the entire evening, it was more fun than I've had in a long time. Sometimes just being with people that are great is all you need.
Saturday my dad drove a bunch of log rollers and myself up to Hudson, WI for a tournament. And yes, even though they are small, I consider each one of those rollers a great friend. They all had a wonderful time and competed really well. One of the highlights of my weekend was getting a chance to see some of my dearest log rolling buddies, Jamie, Kevin, and Jill. We played Trivial Pursuit and went bowling. Kevin's balls smell like grapes. Gotta love it. I don't think I stopped smiling all night. I look forward to seeing my log rolling friends all winter long... so seeing them in the off season is such a treat! (Yes, I said treat... sounding more and more like grandma every day!)
Sunday I spent the day with the love of my life and my closest friend. All Ken and I did was go shopping, eat lunch, and read magazines, but it was such quality time. I'm so lucky to have somebody who makes me feel so special.
Lastly was the big decision that I had to make last week. Which has a LOT to do with friendship. My best friend Erin is getting married on June 30th, and I was lucky enough to get to be the maid of honor. Erin and I have been best friends for over 10 years, and have always talked about being a part of each other's weddings. I just found out the STIHL Timbersport Series qualifiers are being held in Alabama on the exact same day. By missing this I'm missing out on competing in the sport I love for TWO separate competitions, (you can't compete at finals in Stillwater if you don't place at the qualifiers in Alabama) probably a chance at sponsorship, and a few bucks. I love lumberjack sports. And I love the people I compete with. This made it a tough decision at first... until I laid it all out in my mind. Erin is my best friend in the entire world. You only get one best friend, and she only gets one wedding day. What kind of friend would miss that? A horrible one. I can boom run any year. I can make money in many different ways (keep those wise cracks to yourself). And why should I let a quest for sponsorship take over why I do these sports in the first place? I will still have many other contests next summer, and best of all, I will have the joy of seeing my best friend walk down the aisle with the most amazing man ever. So log rollers... I love you all and will see you a few times next summer, but Erin takes priority.
This whole long blog just barely scratches the surface of how my friends have made a difference in my life. I sure am lucky, eh?
